On the 1st September there will be a meeting in the Axis Centre at 7pm to discuss the future of Kingseat. It is essential that as many residents of Kingseat attend as possible to give their support.

The purpose of the meeting is to form an action group with the objective of:

  1. To save our heritage – the buildings of the Kingseat Mental Hospital.
  2. To obtain essential amenities such as a community hall, convenience store, cafe, etc.
  3. To complete the development of all the issues with the infrastructure.

It would be nice if items 1 and 2 could be combined to make use of the old buildings to have a functional purpose again. I say “old buildings” but properly maintained these buildings will last for centuries. Many of newer public buildings built in the 60’s and 70’s have now been demolished, for example, St. Nicholas house, Greyfriars house and Broadfold House. Aberdeen City Council actually moved to Marischal College a building partly designed by Sir Alexander Marshall Mackenzie, a name familiar to the people of Kingseat.

Hasn’t this been done before? Yes, it has, but what do we do? Do we just throw in the towel and forget about it or do we fight on, eventually something has got to give.

Aberdeenshire Council will give their support but this is a community led project from the residents of Kingseat and the work must come from the action group.

The derelict buildings are not just an eyesore but a danger to everyone as they are left unchecked They are also, as we have found out, pose an adventure to younger members of our community.

Remember, if we don’t do anything nothing will be done. Please come on Thursday 1st September to the Axis Centre at 7pm your village needs you.
